Poppy: The Marketing Apprentice who became a Business Owner

Poppy began her career as a digital marketing apprentice, but due to her success, she now runs her own marketing agency!

Since completing her apprenticeship, Poppy has achieved remarkable success with her own marketing agency, POPS Marketing and Consultancy. She’s gone from apprentice to accomplished professional through sheer dedication and an incredible knack for the industry!

Poppy finished Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College and discovered she would like to go into digital marketing. After contacting HBTC, she secured an apprenticeship working at the Northern Foundry (digital marketing specialists).

Poppy rose to the challenge of managing 10 clients as a Social Media Executive Apprentice – creating unique, engaging content that truly made her mark. Her hard work paid off and she excelled in this role. Each of these was in a variety of different industries, meaning Poppy had to become an expert in various different businesses. After showing her skills, the role transitioned into a mixture of business development and marketing management.

Throughout her digital marketing apprenticeship, she impressed both her workplace and tutors at HBTC, going from strength to strength during her journey. By developing her existing skillset and bolstering this further at every given opportunity.

We asked Poppy “what is the most important thing you have learned during your apprenticeship?” her response was “INITIATIVE! Especially in the marketing industry, no idea is bad if you can implement it well enough”.

We also asked “how do you think you have developed as a person and professionally during your apprenticeship?”

“I have definitely developed as a person and professionally. Starting in the working world is a big thing, but learning new skills and developing them gives you even more confidence.”

Finally, we asked “what would you say to employers thinking of recruiting an apprentice?”

“It will enable you to allow someone to grow with your business and can pass on key skills, knowledge and they will become a valuable member of your team. Everyone has to start somewhere and we should be giving younger people that chance if they are showing willingness.”

After completing her digital marketing apprenticeship, Poppy now successfully runs her own business, POPS Marketing and Consultancy since May 2022. As Director, she has been supporting people and businesses across East Yorkshire and throughout the Yorkshire region. Poppy’s future career aspirations are to grow and develop POPS Marketing and Consultancy, and hopefully, one day take on a couple of apprentices of her own.

If your business would like support with your marketing strategy. Please get in contact with Poppy. The team at HBTC can vouch for how great she is.
