Life of a Digital Marketing Apprentice: My first 3 months
As I’m sure you’re aware by now, I am the digital marketing apprentice at HBTC and I have just completed 3 months here! 🥳
I have been currently documenting my journey throughout my digital marketing apprenticeship here at HBTC. This is my second article in the series so far. If you haven’t read the article on my first month at HBTC then take a look!
After recovering from the brilliant staff party at the end of last year, January brought on a new time to knuckle down and crack on with other aspects of the role that had been less prominent in the first month.
This featured much more engagement with schools. After getting a taster in early December at Hornsea School and Languages College as to what my school’s engagement initiative would look like. It was time to start engaging with schools, I have now already visited 9 different schools and colleges!
It first began with a couple of career events at Wilberforce College and Hornsea Secondary and Languages College, these were both brilliant events and helped me establish an understanding of what students and young people are aspiring to do in their careers.
I attended the event at Hornsea solo (a very scary prospect at first!) It helped me realise that students are not here to bring death, destruction and mischief to the world, but are just looking for advice and help themselves.
Then came my busiest week so far at HBTC… National Apprenticeship Week. As an apprenticeship training provider, this was the perfect opportunity to utilise our social media presence to teach people about the usefulness of apprenticeships. This also coincided with my busiest week for school events, 4 different events as well as being busy on social media! It provided a hectic, fast-paced week.
The aspect I most enjoyed in the week was attending Holderness Academy and completing mock interviews with year 10’s. It provided me with some new skills to utilise at some stage of my life (the ability to interview) Unfortunately I had to leave before the awards were given out which would mean that I didn’t get to meet the Hullensian ‘The Apprentice’ star, Megan Hornby, who was responsible for presenting the award to the best interviewee in the year!
Nearing the end of National Apprenticeship Week, the newsletter was being finalised and ready to send off. It helped me learn the importance of planning far in advance, as I hadn’t planned to get all the articles out in time. We didn’t want the newsletter to be sent out late, which would mean I had to then put more focus back onto finishing articles in time.
By some miracle, I managed to get everything finished in time and ready to send off at the end of the week. As I spoke about before, it taught me a valuable lesson on time management, and just how important it is as a digital marketer to plan not only days in advance, but weeks and months. It means that in the future I will be more prepared and use the content plan to my advantage more.
Apprenticeships are a critical way to learn and grow. Employers understand that mistakes will be made, but it’s important for an apprentice to demonstrate the motivation and resilience needed in order to apply their experiences going forward. With this attitude of striving towards excellence, apprentices can truly thrive!
Overall, the past couple of months have been a mixed bag full of tonnes of different tasks, events and responsibilities. It has taught me the importance of planning in advance and has helped develop my confidence hugely. Although it’s still very early days in my digital marketing apprenticeship, I’ve impressed myself so far with how much I’ve learned and how far I have already come.
