When she was younger, Ellie was ambidextrous which unfortunately made it difficult to pass her driving test as she would get confused with her lefts and rights (Ellie never needed to know!)

As mentioned Ellie works at Reality Solutions, an employer HBTC works closely with and have supplied multiple apprentices to. Reality Solutions specialising in offering Sage solutions, IT and bespoke software solutions in Hull, Humber & Yorkshire.

Ellie was looking to upskill and develop her career and decided that a great way to do this is to complete a L3 Team Leader qualification with us. We decided to ask her some questions about how her Team Leader qualification went.

What did you enjoy most about the apprenticeship and your role?

I loved learning things about styles of leadership and management, and been given the tools to use these in my job.

What is the most important thing you have learned during your apprenticeship?

Time management, doing my usual job alongside the apprenticeship was, at times, a stretch but managing my time has meant I did well to finish my apprenticeship.

How do you think you have developed as a person and professionally during your apprenticeship?

I would like to think I have become a better manager for the skills I have learnt during the apprenticeship, I now have a 360-degree view over what leadership is, and what it means for individuals.

Personally, I am very proud that my daughter (2) has seen me doing this alongside my full-time job, I want to inspire her to never stop learning.

What advice would you give to others thinking about doing an apprenticeship?

Do it! The skills you learn will be invaluable.

What advice would you give to others starting an apprenticeship?

Give it everything you have, your employer will give you everything you give, and if that’s a small amount of effort, then you’ll get that in return. But if you work hard, ask questions, use your initiative and give ideas, then you’ll be an asset to their business.

What would you say to employers thinking of recruiting an apprentice?

Coming from an employer that regularly recruits apprentices, we love doing this because it gives people a chance, and gives us a chance to teach!
