Dan: The Inspirational Team Leader

Dan: The Inspirational Team Leader

Dan is a recent completer of the team leader course we offer here at HBTC. He wanted to gain more experience, knowledge and confidence. After his manager recommended the course to him he embarked upon his team leader adventure. He currently works as a Sales & Finance Administrator at Brownings Ltd.

Did you know Dan once booked a very ‘cheap’ coach holiday to Loch Lomond? Setting off at 9 am and arriving at 5pm (in the dark) so he chose to make FULL use of the free bar. To be awoken at 7 am the next morning to get the coach home. He still has no idea what Loch Lomond looks like.

In his role, Dan deals with customer sales enquiries and orders on a day to day basis via email, face to face and over the phone. These evolved hugely during the apprenticeship. Alongside this, he also took up more responsibility for coaching and training new starters. The role has also recently developed into dealing with finance too. Doing month end, dealing with customer payments to name a few.

We decided to ask Dan some questions…

What did you enjoy most about the Apprenticeship?

The pace of the apprenticeship was fantastic and I enjoyed speaking to others on the course.

What is the most important thing you have learned during your Apprenticeship?

I learned how to manage myself better and all about new coaching styles.

What is involved in your role?

I still deal with customer sales enquiries and orders on a day to day basis via email, face to face and over the phone but I’m now a lot more finance based so some customer enquiries do get delegated to my team. I’m also in charge of sorting new customer accounts and making sure payments are received, month end etc.

How do you think you have developed as a person and professionally during your apprenticeship?

I am a lot more confident face to face with people and just all round in general. I’m a lot better at offering support and honest, constructive feedback to people within my team.

What advice would you give to others thinking about doing an Apprenticeship?

I would highly recommend doing it. It still gains you a huge amount of experience and confidence at work and in other aspects of everyday life.
