At HBTC, we’re always proud to see our apprentices thrive, and Sam’s story is a shining example of how passion, hard work, and the right support can create something truly exceptional. As an Online Training Co-ordinator at Bostonair, Sam has gone from newcomer to a key player in a fast-paced, global business.
from curiosity to career
When Sam first came across the opportunity through HBTC, the world of aviation immediately stood out as an exciting and dynamic space to grow in. “Aviation is a very interesting industry where I could develop my skills and knowledge,” Sam shared. Sam has most certainly developed professionally, creatively, and personally.
Starting the apprenticeship with a strong desire to gain real-world experience, Sam was drawn to the opportunity to build practical skills on the job while earning a qualification that would set him up for a successful future.
building skills that make a difference

Sam’s role at Bostonair has been as hands-on as it gets. As an Online Training Coordinator, he’s been at the heart of course design, customer service, and live session support for high-profile clients such as WizzAir and ASL. Whether it’s crafting interactive training content, solving complex customer queries, or making sure sessions run smoothly, Sam has taken on each task with dedication and a problem-solving mindset.
Throughout his apprenticeship, Sam has developed:
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills
- Creative flair in online course design
- Critical thinking and adaptability in a fast-paced digital environment
- Advanced IT proficiency and technical confidence
These are more than just skills, they’re the foundations of a confident and capable professional ready to thrive in any digital-forward business.
Stepping up & standing out
Sam hasn’t just learned, he’s led. One of his proudest achievements has been taking full ownership of course creation, overseeing the end-to-end development of new learning modules for Bostonair’s platform. He also took the lead on a major apprenticeship project, designing FAQ content and helpful tip sheets that are now used company-wide.
It’s no surprise that Sam earned a Triple Distinction on his apprenticeship, a testament to the quality of his work and commitment.
aidan’s perspective – online training manager at bostonair
Aidan, Sam’s line manager at Bostonair, has been impressed every step of the way:
“It has been a pleasure watching the apprentices, especially Sam, whom works directly under me, develop into a confident and capable member of the team.”
Bostonair has a long-standing belief in apprenticeships, having nurtured several team members from entry-level to leadership roles, including their current Finance Manager, who completed an accountancy apprenticeship and is now a full chartered accountant for the business. For Aidan, apprentices bring fresh perspectives, digital-savvy insights, and a real opportunity to invest in the next generation of industry professionals.
“Apprentices allow us to develop new content faster, improve customer experience, and tap into innovative ideas that shape our future.”
looking ahead
Sam’s journey doesn’t stop here. With plans to continue growing within Bostonair, he’s ready to build on his experience by upskilling in course creation and customer engagement, leveraging advancements like AI to shape the future of training delivery.
“The apprenticeship has helped me grow professionally by learning different skills in that I have applied to dealing with customers, which has had a positive effect by building up relationships. I have also developed my personal skills by increasing my confidence when talking to people within the company and outside of work, from the skills I have learned.”
why apprenticeships matter
Sam’s story is a powerful reminder of the transformational power of apprenticeships. They offer more than just a qualification, they create confident, capable professionals who bring real value to the businesses they work for.
To anyone considering an apprenticeship, Sam has simple advice:
“I would say do an apprenticeship as it is beneficial to gain experience straight away and learn skills on the job, which are really beneficial for later in life, and you get a qualification, it is also more cost-effective than University.”
And to employers, Aidan echoes the sentiment:
“Don’t just see apprentices as a ‘cheap’ form of labour. Invest in them and take time to grow them, and they will develop into invaluable assets to the company as they will be moulded by your ethics and practices.”
When asking Aidan if he would recommend apprenticeship programs to other businesses, he responded: “Definitely – not only does it allow the business to expand at reasonably low cost, it is potentially developing the next generation of workforce for the wider economic growth of the country.”
And we couldn’t agree more!
Congratulations, Sam! Your achievements are a fantastic example of what’s possible when dedication meets opportunity. We can’t wait to see what you do next.
