What Is the Advanced Learner Loan?
If you are not eligible for our funded employee training, you could benefit from the support of the Advanced Learner Loan.
The Advanced Learner Loan is a government loan to help adults pay for their training or education. If you’re 19 or older and want to study an eligible course at HBTC, this loan can help you cover the costs.
You won’t need to pay anything upfront, and you only start paying the loan back when you’re earning over £27,295 a year.

Who Can Get It?
You can apply for the loan if:
✅ You’re aged 19 or over
✅ You’re living in England
✅ You’re enrolling on an eligible Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course at HBTC
✅ You’re a UK national or have ‘settled status’
Your credit score and household income don’t matter for this loan.
What Can I Do With HBTC Through the Advanced Learner Loan?
At HBTC, we offer work-based learning in key career areas through the Advanced Learner Loan. You can study:
🎓 Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
🗂️ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration
These are practical, hands-on qualifications that require real experience in the workplace. To enrol, you’ll need to:
◾ Be in a voluntary role in your chosen subject area
◾ Volunteer for a minimum of 2 days a week to collect evidence for your coursework
If you’re passionate about helping in schools or want to grow your business skills, these courses are a great stepping stone toward employment or further education.
Extra Support: Advanced Learner Loan Bursary Fund
If you’re approved for an Advanced Learner Loan, you might also qualify for extra financial help through the Advanced Learner Loan Bursary Fund. This bursary can assist with:

📝 Course materials and equipment
🏨 Accommodation if you need to live away from home
🧑🦽➡️ Support for disabilities or learning difficulties
