Running for Research

Our very own Laura has been raising money for Cancer Research, running the Race for Life. Here she shares her experience from the race track!

Last Sunday, my mum and I did the Race for Life 5k to help Cancer Research UK. It’s an awesome fundraising event where people run, jog, or walk to raise money for cancer research. It’s a big deal and brings communities together to fight cancer.

The energy was amazing as we lined up at the start, all with the same goal – coming together as a community for a great cause. Anyone can join the race and set their own goals. Some people sprint, some jog (like us), some do a mix of walking and jogging, and some just walk. The point is to challenge yourself, raise money, and have a blast!

Our personal goal was to jog the whole 5k without stopping to walk, which was a big deal for us since we haven’t run more than 3k in years. But with the awesome atmosphere and cheers from volunteers and spectators along the route, we ended up running 3k without a problem. So why not do another 2k? We proudly crossed the finish line in 40 minutes with no breaks. But what we’re most proud of is raising over £300 🤑 for this amazing cause, thanks to the generosity of our friends, family and colleagues, including all the smashers I work with at HBTC!

Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is a top charity dedicated to researching cancer. As the world’s biggest independent cancer research organization, CRUK is a driving force in understanding, preventing, diagnosing, and treating cancer. Fundraising is super important for their work. The money they raise helps develop new technologies, support clinical trials, and allows scientists to dive deeper into the complexities of cancer. Every pound donated gets us closer to beating this terrible disease.

If you’d like to donate to Cancer Research UK you can still do so through our JustGiving page and keep an eye out for when they announce next year’s race. You never know, I might see you at the finish line!
