How Soshell helped Alicia kickstart her digital marketing career
Whether you’re fresh out of school or looking to make a career change, pursuing a digital marketing apprenticeship is a great way to learn the ropes and get your foot in the door. Alicia was able to do just that, and she’s here to tell you about her experience at Soshell!
After leaving John Legott College, Alicia decided that she wanted to pursue a career in digital marketing. She considered her options, and decided an apprenticeship would be the best path to take and got in touch with HBTC. She said “as soon as I applied on the HBTC website, I received a call to discuss opportunities.”
HBTC made Alicia aware of a Digital Marketing Apprentice role at Soshell. Soshell are a digital marketing agency who specialise in online retail and utilise their expertise to effectively communicate with customers to drive engagement and sales. It was exactly the type of opportunity that she was looking for.
Following a successful application and interview Alicia secured the apprenticeship at Soshell. At the start of the apprenticeship she got involved in all aspects of the business and worked with a variety of colleagues. This gave Alicia and Soshell the opportunity to understand her interests and strengths. She quickly took a shine to the social and creative side of the role and started to take more control of the social accounts including TikTok.
Alicia’s role has evolved further, over time, and her responsibility has grown. She now takes full control of all of the social content. She has also demonstrated great success in growing Soshell’s largest client, Joshua James’ social platforms. One of the Tik Tok videos she produced for the client amassed over 178k views which generated significant interest in their brand.

Alicia acknowledges that her apprenticeship has been beneficial to her development. “I have gained more confidence and grown as a person. I have developed skills and gained knowledge that will benefit me for the rest of my career.” She would recommend anyone to consider apprenticeships “it was the best thing for me to do after leaving college. You earn and learn at the same time whilst developing the skills for your career. Anyone thinking about apprenticeships should definitely give it a go!”
Ellie Clark, Director and Strategic Lead at Soshell and Alicia’s Supervisor, ensures there is always a focus on developing employees within the business. They have recruited several apprentices previously via other apprenticeship providers, but due to a negative experience, they got in touch with HBTC. She wanted to use a local provider who could access good local candidates and ensure a smoother process for the apprentice. Ellie has been impressed with Alicia who has a “real passion to learn, which has helped her grow so much in her time here.”
