HBTC Apprentice of the year 2025
We are delighted to share the results of this year’s HBTC Apprentice of the Year Awards 2025.
This year, we received around 50 nominations from employers, each one highlighting the hard work, talent, and commitment of their apprentices. The standard was exceptionally high, making it both a difficult and very encouraging task to select our winner. Every nomination was a testament to the positive impact apprenticeships are having in businesses and organisations across our community.
Celebrating our shortlist
We were proud to recognise three outstanding apprentices who made it onto our shortlist this year:
- Lewis Hubbert – Digital Marketing Apprentice at North East Lincolnshire Council
“Lewis underwent a remarkable transformation-both personally and professionally. By the end of his programme, he had grown into a confident and capable marketing professional whose contributions left a lasting impact on the L&D function.”
- Emily Bell – Business Administration Apprentice at Rix Shipping
“In an industry where people with experience can struggle in the fast-paced, forever shifting, and information-heavy world of Shipping, Emily approaches each element with an attitude that belies her years.”
- Eleanor Buckle – Digital Marketing Apprentice at Hull CVS
“Eleanor’s dependability and positive attitude make her a genuine asset to Hull CVS, and she embodies our values in every task she undertakes. I have no doubt that her talent and dedication will continue to shine, and I look forward to watching her flourish in our organisation for many years to come.”
Announcing our apprentice of the year 2025
We are thrilled to announce that Meg Baron has been named HBTC Apprentice of the Year 2025!

Meg completed her Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with HBTC earlier this year and has since secured a permanent role as Marketing and Communications Officer at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind. To celebrate her success, we recently met with her to present her prize, a £100 Amazon voucher, and congratulate her on this outstanding achievement.
a standout apprentice
Throughout her apprenticeship, Meg demonstrated incredible dedication, creativity, and determination. Her HBTC Tutor and Assessor, Sophie, praised her hard work and commitment: “Meg was brilliant to work with during the apprenticeship! I’d definitely say she deserves to win. She worked hard on all of her reports and portfolio work, which were consistently of a high standard throughout. She also really threw herself into her job role at Mind, dealing with some quite heavy subject topics with maturity and professionalism. Definitely one of the best digital marketing learners I’ve worked with, which was reflected in her Distinction grade.”
Making an impact at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind
Meg’s employer was equally full of admiration. Jack, her manager at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, explained why she stood out as Apprentice of the Year:
“We are proud to nominate Meg for HBTC Apprentice of the Year. She recently completed her Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship, achieving a Distinction, securing a permanent full-time role, and already making a lasting impact within our charity.
Now, Meg leads many of our digital campaigns, creating content that raises awareness of mental health, reaches those in need, and helps reduce stigma in our communities. Her work is thoughtful, creative, and effective, and she has played a key role in growing our online presence and engagement.
What sets Meg apart is the combination of her talent, work ethic, and values. She’s reliable, supportive, full of ideas, and someone her colleagues genuinely enjoy working with. Meg is a brilliant example of what an apprentice can achieve.”
going above and beyond
Meg hasn’t just excelled in her day-to-day role. She regularly volunteers at events, speaks at local colleges to inspire other young people, and has become known as the organisation’s “LinkedIn queen”, sharing her journey and using her platform to talk openly about both apprenticeships and mental health.
Her efforts have already earned wider recognition. Meg was shortlisted for Health and Public Sector Apprentice of the Year at the East Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards and also won Hull and East Yorkshire Mind’s internal Einstein Award, recognising creativity and innovation.
a promising path forward
Meg’s journey is a brilliant example of how apprenticeships can launch successful and meaningful careers. She has not only gained a qualification but has also made a genuine difference to people’s lives through her work.
From everyone at HBTC, we warmly congratulate all of our Apprentice of the Year nominees, and especially Meg, for her exceptional achievement. Here’s to many more years of success, innovation, and inspiring talent at HBTC!.
