Seth finds success as a Software Support Apprentice
Seth is a Software Support Apprentice working at Reality Solutions in Hull. From the start of his career, Seth always was looking to head into the IT/software sector, but was unsure on how to break into the industry.

Seth discovered an early talent for problem solving as whenever a family member had an issue with technology, Seth would always be on hand to solve the problem. Whether that was an email issue or fixing the sound on the TV, even if Seth didn’t know how to solve the issue, he would research and figure out. Despite lacking qualifications, there was a clear talent for resolving technical issues, all that was needed was some guidance to help him along the way.
Seth started as a Project Administrator Apprentice at Reality Solutions. Originally, Seth interviewed for the Software Support role, but impressed so much, he was given the choice of the two. Seth opted for Project Administration with bits of Support alongside this to ensure he got the maximum amount of development possible.
His first role involved creating the starting documents for new projects, sitting in on meetings and taking notes, booking in project meetings and updating calendars with training days and finally communicating with project clients.
After spending 6 months in this role, Seth was starting to gain little projects to work on, such as new equipment and its software, which was feeding more into the support aspects of his role.
Autonomy, trust, learning and researching are Seth’s most enjoyable elements of the apprenticeship so far. Seth loves that he is working in a supportive environment and has no issues asking for help when needed. He hasn’t had to figure out how he worked best, Reality Solutions did that for him, they have identified and looked for routes for him to take advantage of skills Seth didn’t even realise he had.
The most important skill Seth has learned so far on his apprenticeship has been teamwork. In college Seth had no issues working in groups, but working in a team feels a lot different. It has helped Seth build up relationships with people he is consistently working with day in day out, you get to know their strengths and how they can help you.
Seth currently works as a Software Support Technician, he will be doing this role for the next 6 months with the intention of moving back into Projects, to help him diversify his skillset. Currently Seth is working on tickets, answering phone calls from clients with new issues to log tickets for. Seth’s attitude to work is tremendous, he is trying his hardest to learn as much as he can about the software Reality Solutions provides, and building upon his customer service skills but whilst upskilling his confidence further too.
Seth believes the best way to learn is to make mistakes, he said “Don’t be afraid to mess things up, it will happen, you are an apprentice but It’s one of the best ways to learn.”
The progress Seth has made since starting the apprenticeship is inspirational to anyone looking at starting. If this has inspired you then why not take a look at some of our vacancies to learn how you can become the next star apprentice!
