Meet the Staff: Dawn

Meet the Staff: Dawn

Meet Dawn, a valued member of the HBTC team, who brings dedication, warmth, and a personal touch to supporting apprentices throughout their learning journey.

We’re delighted to introduce Dawn, one of our dedicated tutors and assessors here at HBTC. Dawn is a valued member of our team, known not only for her extensive experience but also for her unwavering commitment to supporting our apprentices. She brings warmth, professionalism, and a personal touch to everything she does, ensuring every learner feels guided and motivated throughout their apprenticeship journey, from the very first meeting to the proud moment they achieve their qualification. Her ability to build strong, positive relationships with both learners and employers makes her an invaluable part of HBTC.

What do you do in your role?

In my role, I support learners through their apprenticeship journey from start to finish. I also build positive working relationships with their employers, making sure everyone is supported every step of the way.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background?

My career actually started in retail on a YTS course (which was the equivalent of an apprenticeship). From there, I became a retail manager and later a manager designate, travelling around the UK opening new stores, training new staff, and troubleshooting for underperforming ones.

After having my children, I changed direction and worked in secondary education for 18 years before becoming employed at HBTC.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of my job is visiting learners in their workplace, getting to know them and what their job role is. Also, delivering the good news when they’ve achieved their qualification, after all their hard work, is really rewarding!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would love to visit Australia and do all the touristy things, such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Sydney Opera House, the stunning beaches and the rainforests. There are so many different things to do.

What’s your favourite song?

It’s hard to pick a favourite song, I’ve got so many. The one at the moment is Dekota by Stereophonics, because I’ve just been to see them in concert.

How do you like to unwind after a busy day?

I love paddleboarding, and I’m only a 5-minute drive away from the River Ancholme, so during spring and summer, I will meet with friends after work. During the winter months, I always have a book to read.

How do you stay motivated and inspired?

I stay motivated by knowing that the apprentices are going to achieve their qualification and hopefully use this to progress in their chosen career. Also, letting them know when they’ve achieved after all their hard work.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies that might surprise us?

I used to be a keen horse rider and owned an ex-racehorse. I still love horses, but I just haven’t got the time needed to look after one.

Which season do you enjoy the most?

Meet the Staff: Picture of Dawn, one of our fantastic tutors and assessors.

I love the summer months, so I can be outdoors most of the time. I prefer hot weather and a good excuse to have a BBQ and drinks in the garden.

At HBTC, we’re incredibly proud to have Dawn on our team. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and genuine care for her learners make a real difference every day. Beyond her professional expertise, her warmth, positivity, and ability to motivate and inspire both learners and colleagues alike make her a standout team member. Dawn truly embodies the values we hold, and we’re grateful for the passion and energy she brings to everything she does.
