Julia’s journey as a First Line Support Apprentice at Cobus Ltd showcases the incredible impact of apprenticeships in shaping skilled professionals. Through dedication, problem-solving, and hands-on learning, she has not only grown in her role but also contributed significantly to her team’s success.

At Cobus Ltd, investing in apprentices is more than just a business decision—it’s about nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and shaping the future of the industry. Julia is a shining example of how apprenticeships can provide meaningful career opportunities while making a real impact within an organisation. As a First Line Support Apprentice, Julia has excelled in her role, showcasing dedication, problem-solving abilities, and a strong commitment to professional growth.

Starting the journey

Julia first learned about Cobus Ltd through Mackauly, our Recruitment officer here at HBTC, who introduced her to the company and its operations. With a keen interest in technology, she saw the apprenticeship as a perfect opportunity to expand her knowledge in the communications sector.

“My initial expectations were to gain extensive knowledge in both technology and customer service,” Julia recalls. “In my first few weeks of the apprenticeship, I gained extensive knowledge, began assisting customers with their issues, and deepened my understanding of customer service. I also received valuable training to further develop my skills”.

skills development and professional growth

Throughout her apprenticeship, Julia has developed key competencies, including customer service, communication, time management, and attention to detail. Her ability to conduct remote diagnostics, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions has proven invaluable to the customer support team.

“The apprenticeship has expanded my technical knowledge and enhanced my problem-solving approach to various technical challenges,” she explains. “It has also pushed me to navigate complex situations, make difficult decisions, and carefully consider the benefits and consequences.”

outstanding contributions and achievements

Julia’s impact at Cobus Ltd has been significant. One of her key projects involved analysing customer and business charges, including billing services, to assess cost increases and their effect on customer bills. Her initiative in proactively managing customer inquiries led to reduced response times and improved customer satisfaction.

One of Julia’s proudest moments came when a new customer provided glowing feedback about her dedication to resolving recurring faults. Receiving that recognition shows how much Julia has grown in her role and how important her contributions are to her customers!

employer’s perspective: a valued member of the team

Marc, the Customer Support Manager at Cobus Ltd, has witnessed first-hand the positive impact of apprenticeships. “Apprentices like Julia bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn, which energises the entire team,” he states. “Julia quickly adapted to managing customer inquiries, leading to significantly reduced response times and a noticeable improvement in overall customer satisfaction. She received outstanding feedback for successfully leading an installation project from start to finish, demonstrating both initiative and attention to detail”.

In addition to this, Marc goes on to explain how “Julia has mastered one of our more complex systems and is now among a select few team members capable of handling specialised customer faults and enquiries related to it.” If this doesn’t scream success, then I don’t know what does! Julia demonstrates how apprenticeships bring a skilled workforce, whilst giving learners hands-on experiences!

Marc also highlights Julia’s ability to introduce ideas for Cobus, “Julia introduced the idea of proactively contacting customers to schedule maintenance visits. This initiative has strengthened our customer relationships by fostering consistent communication and ensuring we stay ahead of potential issues.”
