IT Helpdesk Engineer
An established and growing organisation is seeking a skilled IT Helpdesk Engineer to join its technical support team based in West Hull. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated IT professional who enjoys problem-solving, delivering exceptional customer service, and working across a varied technical environment.
The successful candidate will provide support to users across East Yorkshire and the UK. While the role is primarily office-based in Hull, occasional travel to customer locations will be required.
As an IT Helpdesk Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical support across hardware, software, network infrastructure, and telephony systems. You will play a key role in ensuring systems operate efficiently and that service levels are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosing and resolving IT equipment faults both over the phone and face-to-face
- Performing system checks, troubleshooting issues, and escalating where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate technical documentation and procedures
- Delivering support across a range of operating systems, business applications, and hardware
- Meeting agreed service level targets (SLAs)
- Supporting and managing backup solutions, including cloud-based storage
- Contributing to strong cybersecurity practices and compliance standards
- Providing support for infrastructure, desktop environments, and network systems
- Assisting with VoIP and telephony solutions
Skills & Knowledge
Essential Skills:
- Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022), including virtual servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, and security policies
- Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange/Email, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive)
- In-depth knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Strong understanding of networking principles, including switches, firewalls, VPNs, DHCP, and DNS
- Experience supporting IT infrastructure and desktop systems
- Familiarity with on-site and off-site backup solutions (including cloud storage)
- Understanding and application of cybersecurity best practices
You should also demonstrate:
- A proactive, service-focused mindset
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- A willingness to continuously learn and develop technical knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A logical, solution-driven approach to resolving technical incidents
Desirable skills:
- Experience supporting non-Microsoft systems (Apple Mac, Linux, mobile devices)
- Knowledge of ITIL frameworks
- Relevant certifications (Microsoft, CompTIA, Apple, or similar)
