Apprenticeship wage rise in April 2024

We come bearing great news for aspiring apprentices. The apprenticeship wage will be rising to £6.40 per hour (as of April 2024) which is excellent news for apprentices and local companies in and around Hull, Grimsby, and Scunthorpe. Whilst the benefits to apprentices themselves are quite obvious, the benefits for employers are less so but, this increase will make apprenticeships more affordable, allowing employers to attract an even larger pool of candidates.

An apprentice will now earn on average £240 per week. The apprenticeship wage is rising in line with the rest of the increases taking place this April. If you are under 18 it will be £6.40 per hour; 18-20 will now be on £8.60 per hour and 21+ will be £11.44 per hour.

The national living wage is currently accessible for anyone 23 or over, although as of April 2024, if you are 21 or over you will now receive the national living wage.

As stated earlier, this is superb news for local businesses in the Humber region, there will be a greater pool of candidates to access, ensuring your apprenticeship roles are filled with the best in the region! Pair this with changes to apprenticeship funding and apprenticeships are looking ever more fashionable!

It is important that apprentices are aware of their rights and ensuring you are receiving the wage you are entitled to is one of them. Did you know that the rule of law is a fundamental British value? Understanding British values is essential for being a responsible citizen in today’s diverse society. These values help us create inclusive, discrimination-free environments. By challenging stereotypes and prejudices, we can foster stronger community relationships.
