Sam: The Apprentice of the Year!

Sam: The Apprentice of the Year!

Digital marketing apprenticeships are a brilliant way for someone to be able to showcase their artistic talents, whether it’s creative writing, graphic design or imaginative thinking. Our apprentice, Sam, excelled at this in his role as Marketing Executive Apprentice and won Apprentice of the Year.

Sam started off studying marketing at university, but quickly decided it wasn’t for him as he didn’t enjoy classroom work. After leaving, he decided his best option was to look for an apprenticeship to grant him the skillset to pursue a career in marketing. Whilst searching on Indeed he stumbled across our apprenticeship at Diony (a marketing agency). After speaking to our recruitment team at HBTC and securing an interview at Diony, Sam impressed in the interview stage and secured the apprenticeship.

From the get-go at Diony, Sam impressed his colleagues and managers. Sam began by shadowing team members and completing training courses, after making this excellent impact, Sam progressed to working with clients himself! Responsibilities included; helping improve clients’ SEO, working on their websites and writing blogs. When we asked Sam what he enjoys most about his role at Diony, he said “The culture. The work culture here at Diony is great, there’s so much growth opportunity, the team is amazing and so supportive, I couldn’t have asked for a better employer!”

The entire team here at HBTC have been incredibly impressed with Sam’s enthusiasm and the knowledge he has learned so quickly. This can be best represented by his outstanding achievement of winning the Apprentice of the Year at the Hull Live Business Awards 2022! To achieve this after only having been on the apprenticeship for around 10 months is nothing short of sensational.

Sam’s role has developed and he is now involved with all things digital marketing, mainly focusing on writing blogs for clients, working on clients’ websites, e-commerce stores and SEO. Once Sam’s apprenticeship is completed, he will progress onto his new role as an SEO Executive.

We asked Sam what advice he would give to others thinking about doing an apprenticeship. He said “Go for it! It’s a great opportunity to learn whilst earning and it gives a good base for whatever you want to do in the future!”

If you’re nervous about starting your apprenticeship, Sam also gives some helpful advice, “Don’t be afraid to get things wrong, the employers know you’re still learning, without mistakes you won’t learn!”

Apprenticeships are a brilliant way to showcase your talents and develop your skillset further. If ever you need the inspiration to take that first step, just look at Sam and his progression.
