Computanet Solutions is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Helpdesk IT Apprentice to join their expanding IT team. This role combines technical experience with structured apprenticeship training, giving you a strong foundation for a long-term career in IT support and systems administration.

As a Helpdesk IT Apprentice, you’ll be a valued member of the team, supporting staff and users with real IT issues while learning from experienced professionals who are passionate about developing future talent.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support:

  • Provide first-line support for hardware, software and basic network issues
  • Log, triage and resolve incidents using the service desk system
  • Troubleshoot common problems such as login issues, printing faults, connectivity problems and application errors
  • Escalate more complex issues to senior technicians with clear and accurate documentation
  • Assist with remote support using approved tools and processes

Customer Service:

  • Deliver friendly, professional support via phone, email and in person
  • Communicate technical information in a clear, user-friendly way
  • Keep users updated on ticket progress and expected resolution times
  • Gather accurate information to support effective troubleshooting

Device Deployment & Maintenance:

  • Build, configure and deploy laptops, desktops and mobile devices
  • Install and update approved software, drivers and security tools
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks, including system updates and patching
  • Support asset management by tagging, recording and tracking equipment

Security & Compliance:

  • Follow organisational policies for data protection, access control and acceptable use
  • Assist with password resets, MFA setup and account provisioning
  • Report potential security concerns to senior staff
  • Handle user data and system access responsibly and confidentially

Operational Support & Administration:

  • Monitor helpdesk queues and prioritise tasks appropriately
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, including account setup and equipment preparation
  • Assist with basic network checks, such as Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Maintain accurate records in the ticketing system, asset registers and knowledge base

Learning & Development:

  • Complete apprenticeship training, certifications and internal learning modules
  • Shadow senior technicians to develop technical and customer service skills
  • Take part in team meetings, workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions

Skills & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Strong willingness to learn and develop in an IT environment
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a genuine interest in technology
  • Calm, patient and user-focused approach to support
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow processes, troubleshoot logically and ask for help when needed
  • Basic understanding of Windows or macOS, Microsoft 365 and common IT issues
  • Grades 4 or above (or equivalent) in GCSE English and Maths
  • Eligibility to enrol on an IT apprenticeship programme

Desirable:

  • Basic awareness of cybersecurity and data protection
  • Familiarity with service desk or ticketing systems
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Openness to feedback and continuous improvement
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Any IT-related qualification (GCSE, BTEC, A-Level, etc.) or entry-level certification (CompTIA ITF+ or Google IT Support)
